RETAIL ASSISTANT (Casual)

DESIGN TASMANIA are looking for design-forward people passionate about customer service and working directly with some of Tasmania's most celebrated designer-makers.

Casual retail assistants provide support to the Retail Manager and Executive team to deliver high level customer service to our visitors and customers through keen knowledge of our products and makers, with a focus on achieving sales, and maintaining excellent visual merchandising and stock management.

The successful candidate will have great communication skills - the ability to share the story of our unique Tasmanian design culture, designer-makers and their products. Retail staff are highly engaged with the Design Tasmania Artistic Program in the gallery and will be representatives of the institution as a whole with great interpersonal skills, including a friendly phone manner, and good retention of information.

Casual retail assistants must be highly efficient at cash handling & POS experience with a flair for merchandising and attention to detail. You must be flexible and available to work some weekdays and most weekends.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Applicable qualifications in customer service and retail management (tertiary and/or equivalent work experience);

• Design culture awareness in Tasmania and beyond with a commitment to industry as a whole;

• Demonstrated ability to achieve retail sales targets, customer experience objectives and more;

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple customers in a busy retail environment

• Administrative and organisational skills with experience in stock management, sales and presentation of products.

• Ability to work collaboratively and also with autonomy

GALLERY ASSISTANT (Casual)

DESIGN TASMANIA are looking for can-do all-rounders with an interest in design, people and culture.
Delivering high level customer service to our visitors, keeping the displays and collections clean and up to date, as well as an excellent understanding of museum and gallery environments are a must. The successful candidate will assist with installation and bump out of our exhibitions and projects working closely with the Executive Director and curatorial staff.

Gallery casual staff provide assistance to the Executive team as well as supporting the Design Tasmania Volunteers program. Effective communication and outstanding attention to detail are essential, as is a willingness to learn, multi-task and work well within a team.

• Great organisational and communication skills, with high work completion standards

• Admin skills – Microsoft Office Suite. Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) familiarity is also a plus

• Ability to work collaboratively and also with autonomy; to execute exhibition installation and bump out under guidance from the Executive Director and curatorial staff;

• An ability to take initiative and display leadership in this role, as well as a willingness to work unsupervised.

EVENT CREW (Casual)

DESIGN TASMANIA are looking for motivated, organised and event-savvy people committed to outstanding customer service.

High-level hospitality skills as well as RSA certificate and an appreciation of our unique venue are a must. The successful candidate will assist with installation and bump out of our events working closely with the Executive staff and the event team.

Effective communication and outstanding attention to detail are essential, as is a willingness to learn, multi-task and work well within a team.
