Women in Design 2016 is the second in an ongoing series of annual colloquia devoted to women in the field of contemporary design. Design Tasmania has chosen to highlight women because of the underrepresentation of their gender in the design professions, and females being in the minority in design faculties. By dedicating a colloquium to women in the design professions, it is hoped that the numbers of females entering design programs at university will increase, augmenting their numbers in academia, and public and private businesses and industry.
The Women in Design Colloquium event celebrates the enriched platform of Collaboration, making this colloquium an agile leader of modern times. Over two days the collective intelligence and complimentary partnerships between Design Tasmania and Women in Design’s 13 guest speakers will increase diversity, broaden research networks, support values of excellence as well as diversity, equity and inclusion.
Through attendance at Women in Design 2016, emerging design professionals will be introduced to mentors for future projects and careers.
Design Tasmania is offering eight scholarships to cover attendance fees at the 2016 event. Eligibility is open to current full-time students in a design-related course at a tertiary institution in Australia. To submit an application, describe in 150 words the reasons you want to attend Women in Design. The scholarships have been supported by the Winifred D Booth Charitable Foundation who have partnered with Design Tasmania to offer unique opportunities to students studying design at the University of Tasmania.
Each Scholarship enables students to attend the entire weekend of the Colloquium, taking part in the Exhibition Opening, two-day conference of accomplished female speakers, a long table Harvest Dinner presenting Key-Note speaker Katrina Strickland, Editor of the Financial Review Magazine, and abundant networking opportunities with local and interstate designers.
An application consists of your name, contact details and evidence of your enrolment in a university design course, plus your 150 word rationale for attendance.
Entries close 18th July 2016 at 5.00pm.
