Position Open: Retail Manager
Design Tasmania is looking for an inspired, passionate customer service professional to build and expand our retail offering, working directly with some of Tasmania's most celebrated designers and makers.
The Retail Manager will deliver high level customer service to our visitors and customers through deep knowledge of our products and makers, maintaining excellent visual merchandising and stock management to achieve strong sales.
You will have demonstrated experience in promoting and selling objects, along with great communication skills and the ability to share the story of our unique Tasmanian design culture, designers and makers and their work.
You will be engaged with Design Tasmania’s Artistic Program and communications strategies, collaborating with colleagues to align the retail offering (in-store and online). Leading by example for sales, store experience, and operations, you will bring to Design Tasmania great interpersonal skills, exceptional ability to multitask, and a high level of attention to detail.
The Retail Manager must be highly efficient at cash handling & POS experience. and be flexible and available to work weekdays and some weekends and evenings.

Position Responsibilities:
The Retail Manager will have responsibility for the daily operation of the store (physical and online) to ensure it runs efficiently and smoothly and for achieving sales targets. You will be responsible for:
• Achievement of sales goals and performance metrics
• Key Performance Indicators in line with Design Tasmania’s annual targets for:
• In-store sales
• Number of designers represented
• Online sales
• Superior customer experience and supplier relationships management
• Meeting financial and operational objectives, including expense control, budget management, loss prevention, audits/checklists and monthly reports
• Ensuring compliance with all Design Tasmania’s policies and procedures.
Position Requirements:
• Managing the daily operation of the Store (physical and online) to ensure it runs efficiently and smoothly
• Achieving monthly and annual sales, inventory and related retail KPI targets
• Delivering a Store experience that is aligned to Design Tasmania’s mission, vision and visitor experience
• Managing merchandising layout
• Collaborate with communications staff to promote the retail shop both instore and online
• Managing casual staff - including rostering, recruitment, training and development - ensuring excellent customer service
• Working with the Artistic Director and designers to develop new product lines for the Store that extend and enhance the visitor experience whilst contributing to meeting commercial targets
• Managing costs and profitability effectively through the store budget and P&L
• Contributing to developments that support Design Tasmania’s strategy for widening access, inclusion and diversity
• Other duties as requested commensurate with the level of the position

Selection Criteria
Essential:
• Relevant qualifications in customer service and retail management and/or at least five years’ experience in senior retail management roles
• Knowledge of and passion for the arts and/or design in Tasmania and beyond
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills abilities, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple customers in a retail environment
• Proven history of developing and maintaining effective relationships with designers, suppliers and trade partners
• An ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks
• Commercial acumen with the ability to produce and use detailed analytics for evidence-based decision making
• Administrative and organisational experience in stock management, merchandising, inventory control, freight and presentation of products
• Experience in inventory management, including accurately managing product data and physical inventory
• Working knowledge of relevant IT, sales and stock control systems, especially Square and Microsoft Suite
• Ability to manage team to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
• Evidence of capacity to make sound business decisions and effectively communicate with all staff
• Commitment to promote and follow safety protocols
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team, and with volunteers, providing leadership and direction
• Positive attitude with the ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances
Desirable:
• Experience working in the arts environment, with an understanding of a small arts organisation and knowledge of design, craft, and art
