Simon Zablotsky

Simon is interested in combining various metals with timber in his designs. His work combines traditional joinery and modern technology, sometimes including electronic devices such as lift mechanisms. He is inspired by the environment and organic shape and movement can be seen in much of his work. From New South Wales, Simon came to Tasmania to study Furniture Design at the University of Tasmania.

Simon operates a furniture design business in Newcastle, New South Wales. He undertakes large and small-scale commissions and has a range of production furniture items including shelves, chairs, boxes and cabinets. He established the Hunter Fine Woodworking School in 2011 teaching Fine Furniture skills such as steam bending, laminating and veneer making. Simon has undertaken a number of public art and private commissions. In 2008 he won the commission to design and produce a Sydney Federal Court suite, which was all produce from a single, carefully selected Tasmanian Blackwood.
