Dransfield’s eye for unusual shapes has led him to experiment with curved and angled joints in chairs, tables and other household furniture pieces. His work is inspired by the forms, shapes and colours found in Tasmania’s natural bushland. The local wooden boat building traditions as well as many forms of architecture, also inform his aesthetic. As a consequence of the complexity of tapering, expanding or sloping surfaces in his work, Dransfield’s furniture pieces are not suited to industrial manufacture. Each piece must be hand-shaped by the maker.
