Robert Blacklow OAM

(1937–)

Robert is an internationally recognised master craftsman. His marquetry skills and sensitive utilisation of Tasmania’s speciality timbers led to his being commissioned to make the central furniture for the Senate Chamber in Parliament house, Canberra in the late 1980s. He has received a medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General division for service to the arts through the production of fine furniture and marquetry. His work is represented in private collections throughout the world. In Tasmania, his impact on the younger generation of craftsman has been profound and long lasting. After a long career as a cabinetmaker and teacher, Robert worked as a self employed cabinetmaker, specialising in marquetry. He is now retired.
