Pippa Dickson
Pippa moved to Hobart from Perth, WA in 1997 to study Furniture Design at the School of Art, UTAS where she completed an Honours degree and was awarded an Australian Postgraduate Award to undertake a PhD in ‘Furniture for Transit Areas’. Pippa has coordinated several design-related exhibitions including Young Designers Month and Design Island and her work has featured in numerous exhibitions. She has been President of the Furniture Designers Association and was appointed as the first Project Officer - Design at Arts Tasmania. She has been the Executive Officer at GASP (Glenorchy Art and Sculpture Park) since 2008.
My designs are predominantly inspired by elements of aircraft design. I am drawn to the positive connotations of aircraft; mobility, freedom and the idea of being able to transport oneself from a particular situation or condition.
