Fred Fisher

(1945–2013), Orange NSW

Fisher worked as a sculptor and had experience in industry as a toolmaker and production designer. He travelled extensively throughout his career, spending much time touring between the United Kingdom and India. His work shows attention to detail, simplicity of design and an interest in the use and techniques of timber veneers. Fisher enjoyed a successful career, exhibiting regularly and teaching sculpture and design at the University of Tasmania’s School of Art. He was awarded the Mount Nelson Prize for Art in 1988 and received a Commonwealth Postgraduate Scholarship in 1990.

"I am interested in the process of sculpture; how it is made. I am also interested in the transmission of ideas and the development of rules, protocols and language within visual art practice."
