Brendan Sharpe
(1959–), TAS
Brendan designs and makes contemporary furniture from his studio in the historic Georgian township of Richmond, Tasmania. His work is elegant and practical, using fine local timber as a key material and combining sensuous curves with distinctive details. Tasmanian-born of Scottish and Irish parents, Sharpe has chosen the island’s relaxed lifestyle after a decade in London. He draws his inspiration from this experience, as well as his heritage and the grand natural beauty of his surroundings.
“I choose materials according to my relationship with a place. Through the use of Tasmanian timber, I locate myself and my work both physically and spiritually within my island home.”
Education London School of Furniture, 1990; Bachelor of Fine Art (Furniture), University of Tasmania, 1997
