2016 has been an exciting year for Design Tasmania, with the organisation celebrating the milestone of 40 Years. In March the organisation showcased 20 designers in Part 1 of this exhibition and now we conclude an incredible year with the Summer in Design Launch with Part 2 of the 40 Years 40 Designers exhibition.

When Gary Cleveland, founder of Design Tasmania, opened the formally known Design Center, there was only one person in Tasmania earning a living from wood design. Comparing that figure with the large unknown number of designers spanning the state today is an achievement in itself.

To show our gratitude and support of designers, Design Tasmania engaged 40 individual designers and makers to exhibit an object at one of two exhibitions held at Design Tasmania, Launceston.

The diversity of the designers, trades, skills and mediums spans between 1976 when the Center opened, to emerging designers now graduating from university.

20 designers exhibited in March, filling Design Tasmania with new never before seen works inspired by nature, with the second 20 exhibiting in December.

The Tasmanian environment was and continues to be an influencer and main source of inspiration for many designers. This milestone exhibition continues to draw upon the islands stunningly unique surroundings and will bring 40 years of design community together to celebrate Design Tasmania’s 40th Birthday.

20 designers will be showcased at Design Tasmania, Launceston on December 2nd until February 21st.
